March 8 th 2020 Biggest skate contest in Jamaica, one week before Covid madness… at Boston Bay Skatepark…

On March 8 th was organized by the French association Paris Skate Culture a skate BMX event in the first concrete skate park of Jamaica in Boston Bay. The Park was achieved end of 2019. A JUTC Bus came from the surf camp Jamnesia Bull bay with 60 riders. The purpose of this event was to celebrate the growth of skate and BMX in Jamaica with the building of a second skate park this month: FREEDOM skate park in 8 miles Bull bay. An attempt to build one in (UWI ) Kingston in April 2019 didn’t get through even though the work was ninety percent done, 138 company and UWI stopped the charity project before pouring concrete for “administrative reasons.”
In Boston about a hundred riders were gathered and demonstrated their passion for these two new Olympic sports, knowing that surf will also be in 2020. The event was a success local people came to enjoy the show and participate in the initiations. Demos by to pro riders like Evan Mock from Hawaii and Benjamin Garcia (World & European champion in 2017 / 2018) from France have excited the audience and took this JAM’ session to another level. Jamaican skaters like Shama Beckford, Ronald and Ivah Wilmot participated as well as locals ZULU and TATTY the skate girl (fourteen years old). Some say it was the biggest skate event ever held in Jamaica. There is no doubt that skateboarding and BMX are the sports of tomorrow and that the youth of today want their share and that they are surely among them the future Olympic athletes of Jamaica for Paris 2024…Freedom skatepark with be finished in April. An historical moment for JA skaters !
